Sept. 24, 1939 - Mar. 12, 2017 Elijah (Lige) Cleafous Boykin Jr. - age 77 was born September 24, 1939 in Riderwood, Alabama (Choctaw County) and current resident of Bay Minette, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Lige was a 1958 graduate of C.F. Vigor High School. He began employment as a teen at H.S. Kress as well as Ryan Stevedoring. He continued to work at the Alabama State Docks throughout his life through Ryan-Walsh, CSA, and then began a partnership in Tri-State Maritime Services, Inc. in 1994. He was preceded in death by...

Sept. 24, 1939 - Mar. 12, 2017 Elijah (Lige) Cleafous Boykin Jr. - age 77 was born September 24, 1939 in Riderwood, Alabama (Choctaw County) and current resident of Bay Minette, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Lige was a 1958 graduate of C.F. Vigor High School. He began employment as a teen at H.S. Kress as well as Ryan Stevedoring. He continued to work at the Alabama State Docks throughout his life through Ryan-Walsh, CSA, and then began a partnership in Tri-State Maritime Services, Inc. in 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents Elijah Cleafous Boykin Sr. and Betty Jenkins Boykin, two sisters Myrtis Smith, Betty Francis Vick, three brothers Cleafous Desel (DL) Boykin, Robert Boykin and Billie Boykin (Jimmie). He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Shirley Phillips Boykin, one daughter Tracy Boykin Chadwell (Stephen), one grandson Tyler Beck (Jacqueline), three granddaughters Tiffany Bishop (Keaton), Jenny May (James) and Kristi Chadwell, eight grandchildren Gavin, Jackson and Mason Beck, Brooklyn Bishop, Imogen, Sadie and Tucker May, and Ian Chadwell, nieces, nephews and many friends. Lige loved God and family, college football (especially Alabama), NASCAR racing, and working around the farm and waterfront. He was so looking forward to watching the great grandchildren's upcoming ball games. He was much loved by his wife, daughter, son in law, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and too many relatives and friends to name. He will deeply missed by many! Pallbearers will be: Tyler Beck, Keaton Bishop, Donnie Boykin, Donnie Ray Boykin, Ford Lee Daniels and Larry Brooks. Honorary pallbearers are: Terry Sims, Sammy Towery, Tony Rogers, Gerald Harvey, Miles Covington, Derek Wagner, Martin Dorsett and Charlie White. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, AL. The funeral will be on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 11 am from the chapel at Radney Funeral Home with Dr. Chip Starnes officiating. Interment will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
